self-conscious portraits

Though I have painted both, my daughter and myself, the viewpoint is entirely mine.  I hope the work feels truthful and reflects the fragility and vulnerability I often feel as a mother, or an artist, daughter, woman, lesbian, spouse, or any of the labels assigned to me.  The work is about feeling, being conscious, and all the good and bad that comes with it.
