Sara Bakken is a Philadelphia based glass and fiber artist.  After graduating from the University of the Arts with a degree in Crafts and Material Studies, she has continued to create and exhibit her aquatic inspired artwork.  Each piece is composed of either blown or hot-worked glass and manipulated silk organza, with the glass getting a final treatment in the sandblaster to bring cohesiveness to the two mediums.  Marine biology serves as the main source of inspiration for her sculptural creations, which abstractly reference the life and landscapes of the sea.  Sara exhibits her artwork nationally and has a line of handmade luxury glassware which is sold exclusively at the Accent Gallery in Ocean City,NJ.  Sara has also lent her skill set as an artist-in-residence with the International Opera Theater, designing and executing the set design and constumes.  Sara hopes to pursue an MFA in the fall of 2015.
